Yue Fei Zheng's inspiration for the Big Aplysia pavilion came from the Aplysia's body shape and the fluctuating curves of ocean waves. The designer aimed to recreate the feeling of swimming under the sea, with sunlight shimmering through the water. The abstract emotions derived from this experience are encapsulated in the pavilion's parameter structure, providing a unique experience for each visitor.
The pavilion's unique properties lie in its design and construction. The fluctuating curves of the Aplysia's body, combined with the wave-like shapes, reveal bright colors and create an engaging visual experience. The pavilion is constructed using stainless steel and glass, with each piece of construction and glass having a unified output with independent data, following a 3D stretching aesthetic relationship.
The technical specifications of the pavilion are W30000mm x D15500mm x H5100mm. The design process involved 3D cutting and parameters to build, creating a spatial landscape that enhances human experience. The project started in April 2019 in Daya Bay, Huizhou, China, and was completed in January 2020.
One of the challenges faced during the design process was the control of the parameterization and the control for the safe matching against the glass and the caliber errors. However, the multi-dimensional positioning system and the accumulation of manual construction errors greatly increased the control of the parameterization.
The Big Aplysia pavilion is not just an architectural marvel but also an art installation that softens the relationship between people in the architectural space. It has become a place for sightseeing and activates the vitality of the urban environment. The design was awarded Silver in A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2021, a testament to its outstanding design and innovation.
In conclusion, the Big Aplysia pavilion by Yue Fei Zheng is a remarkable fusion of nature and architecture, offering a unique experience to its visitors. Its innovative design and construction have set a new benchmark in the field of architecture and design.
